Girls Triumph Once Again in CBSE Exams

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the results for the Class 10 examinations held during the 2025-26 academic session. These results have once again conclusively demonstrated that, in terms of academic performance, girls continue to outperform boys. Credit is due to the CBSE for having successfully declared the results for over a million students this time around.

This year, the pass percentage stands at 93.7%. While students have maintained the overall passing rate, a closer look at the gender-wise breakdown reveals a clear distinction: girls, with a pass percentage of 94.99%, have outperformed boys, who achieved 92.00%. It is worth noting that last year, the CBSE did not release a merit list, stating that doing so fosters unnecessary competition.
Another point of discussion in recent times has been how some students manage to secure a perfect 100% score in these examinations.

This time, however, there appears to have been some moderation in this regard. Nevertheless, there has been an increase in the number of students securing marks within the 90% to 95% range. Furthermore, it is important to remember that if a student is dissatisfied with their results—specifically regarding the marks obtained—they may apply for an improvement examination. Within just a few months, the student will be re-examined, the results declared, and this new outcome will be considered the final, official result. Consequently, the facility to apply for a re-examination has been made available concurrently with the declaration of the results.

Applications for re-evaluation of answer scripts are also being accepted. Students may opt to improve their performance in any three subjects from the disciplines of Science, Mathematics, Social Science, and Languages. Students whose names were not included in the initial list of candidates may now apply; however, those who were already registered are eligible to appear directly for the second examination. For those who choose not to appear for the re-examination, the results declared in the first phase will remain final. This change has been implemented for the benefit of the students; previously, the second examination was held in September—months after the initial March exams—but it has now been scheduled much sooner to ensure that students do not lose an entire academic year.
