Panaji : Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and a delegation from the Schedule Tribe (ST) community will meet Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday evening for political reservation.
“On Friday evening at 6 pm, I along with the ST delegation will meet Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss political reservation. I met him last but before resolving the issue, the delegation also wanted to meet the home minister,” Sawant told reporters.
Last week, a schedule tribal delegation met in Goa and Pramod Sawant had invited tribal affairs minister Arjun Munda, who sought political reservation. But the delegation did not meet Amit Shah that day. Then, a day later, Sawant met the home minister alone and discussed the matter.
In July 2023, the Goa Legislative Assembly unanimously passed a private member’s resolution on ST leader MLA Ganesh Gaonkar’s motion recommending the government to make political reservation for Scheduled Tribes in the state in the Goa Legislative Assembly, previously. The ST community staged protests and tried to draw the government’s attention to political reservation. According to them, there are around 1.30 lakh ST voters in Goa and hence political reservation should be made for them.
