    New Delhi: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the massive fire at a nightclub in Arpora that claimed multiple lives. During his early morning visit to the site, Sawant confirmed that the club’s general manager has been arrested, and a warrant has been issued for the owner.

    Accountability and Support Measures

    Sawant assured strict action against those violating fire safety norms and directed authorities to provide immediate assistance to victims’ families and hospitals treating the injured. The fire reportedly broke out around midnight, trapping several people who later died due to suffocation.

    When asked whether negligence was involved, the Chief Minister said the investigation would determine if fire safety protocols were followed.

    Leaders React to Tragedy

    On X, Sawant wrote that 25 lives had been lost and six people were injured, adding that the injured were stable and receiving proper medical care. Goa Governor Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju also expressed deep grief, urging authorities to prioritise relief efforts.

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi reacted to the tragedy, saying he had spoken to Sawant and expressed condolences to affected families while wishing the injured a swift recovery.

    Casualties and Ongoing Investigation

    The fire at Birch by Romeo Lane in the bustling Baga belt has sent shockwaves across the state. Goa Police confirmed the death toll at 25, including four tourists and 14 staff members. Identification of seven victims is still underway as rescue and forensic teams continue their investigation at the site.
