Gold and Silver Prices Surge: Gold Up Rs 45,000, Silver Up Rs 78,000 in 2025

Gold and silver prices saw significant gains this week. According to the Indian Bullion Jewelers Association (IBJA), the price of 10 grams of 24-carat gold rose by ₹4,571 (4%) to ₹1,21,525. On the last day of last week (October 3), the price was ₹1,16,954.

Three major reasons due to which gold prices rose

    • Festive season demand: Buying gold during Diwali and Dhanteras is considered auspicious. This has led to strong buying interest, even though quantities are low due to high prices.
    • Geopolitical tensions: Investors are buying gold due to turmoil in the Middle East and concerns about a trade war. There is uncertainty about US policies.
    • Central Bank Purchases: Major banks around the world are seeking to reduce their dependence on the dollar, so they are steadily increasing the share of gold in their treasuries.

Silver prices are rising due to 4 reasons

    • Like gold, the demand for silver has increased due to festivals like Diwali and Karva Chauth.
    • Due to the weakness of the rupee, import costs have increased, which is leading to an increase in silver prices.
    • Increasing demand for silver in industries like electronics, solar panels also increased the prices.
    • The shortage in silver supply at the global level also contributed to the rise in prices.

Gold became costlier by ₹45,363 and silver by ₹78,483 this year.

So far this year, the price of gold has increased by ₹45,363. On December 31, 2024, 10 grams of 24-carat gold was priced at ₹76,162, which has now risen to ₹1,21,525.

The price of silver has also increased by ₹78,483 during this period. The price of one kilogram of silver was ₹86,017 on December 31, 2024, and has now risen to ₹1,64,500 per kilogram.

Gold can go up to Rs 1.55 lakh

According to a recent report by Goldman Sachs, the bank has set a target of $5,000 per ounce for gold by next year. In rupee terms, this would be approximately ₹155,000 per 10 grams at the current exchange rate. Sandeep Raichura, director at brokerage firm PL Capital, said gold could reach ₹144,000 per 10 grams.

Now is not the right time to invest in gold

According to Ajay Kedia, director of Kedia Advisory, gold has already gained nearly 60% this year, so there’s little hope for further gains in the short term. People may book profits. However, investing in it for the long term could yield benefits.
