Amritsar: A youth allegedly attempted an act of sacrilege at the Gurudwara Shaheed Baba Gurubaksh Singh inside the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar.

The incident took place on Wednesday evening when the accused tried to create disturbance inside the sacred premises, but was swiftly overpowered by sewadars, preventing any major damage.

Swift Action by Sewadars Prevents Incident from Escalating

According to reports, the youth attempted to pull out a sword placed in front of the sacred saroop (holy scripture). However, alert sewadars immediately intervened and caught him on the spot, stopping the situation from escalating further.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami took serious note of the incident and demanded that the conspirators behind the act be exposed.

SGPC Calls It a Possible Conspiracy

Dhami said that due to the vigilance of the sewadars, a major sacrilege incident was averted. He described the act as extremely serious and suggested it could be part of a larger conspiracy aimed at disturbing communal harmony.

He expressed concern that sacrilege incidents have been repeatedly occurring, while failure of governments has resulted in no accused receiving strict punishment so far.

Earlier Incidents and Security Concerns Highlighted

Dhami also recalled a previous incident at Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib, where an individual had attempted to scale the railing to commit sacrilege, but alleged that authorities failed to fully uncover the conspiracy behind it.

He stated that the latest incident appears to be an attempt to defame the SGPC administration and incite religious sentiments.

Accused in Custody, Investigation Demanded

The SGPC chief said that the accused is currently in police custody. He warned that if those behind the alleged conspiracy are not identified, it would indicate that the government is not serious about protecting Sikh religious sentiments.

He also appealed to gurdwara management committees and the Sikh community to remain vigilant and ensure such elements do not succeed in their attempts to disturb peace and harmony.
