Golden Temple Safe, Rumors of Waterlogging Baseless: Head Granthi

Amritsar: Head Granthi of the Golden Temple, Gyani Raghbir Singh, on Monday rejected viral social media claims of waterlogging inside the shrine as “completely baseless and misleading.”

The video that triggered the rumor created panic among devotees and residents of Amritsar, with many questioning whether the holy shrine had been flooded. Responding to these concerns, Gyani Singh said, “Sri Harmandir Sahib is completely safe. There is no case of waterlogging either inside or around the temple premises. Devotees should continue visiting without any fear or apprehension.”

Security agencies and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) also confirmed that the situation in the temple complex is normal. The management appealed to the public to trust only verified information from official sources.

Singh urged people to remain cautious against misinformation. “Do not pay attention to rumours or misleading videos, and do not spread them further. By Guru’s grace, the Golden Temple is as peaceful, safe and open to welcome devotees as always,” he said.

Officials clarified that the video being circulated was an edited old clip, being misused to spread fear. They added that the recent floods caused by the breach of the Ghusi dam on the Ravi River in Ajnala—nearly 30 kilometers from Amritsar—have submerged around 80 villages, but there is no impact on the Golden Temple.

The clarification reassured thousands of devotees, with officials emphasizing that Sri Harmandir Sahib remains unaffected and open for darshan.
