Gondia: At least six people were killed and seven others injured after a speeding truck allegedly collided head-on with a Bolero near Nagra village on the Maharashtra-Madhya Pradesh border highway, around five kilometres from Gondia city, on Tuesday.
The victims were labourers from Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh who were travelling with their families to Hyderabad in Telangana for work. Three of the injured are reportedly in critical condition.
How the Gondia Accident Happened
According to police, the workers from villages in the Kirnapur and Lanji tehsil areas of Balaghat were travelling in a Bolero bearing registration number MP-15 T 3495.
The vehicle was reportedly travelling towards Telangana when a truck, bearing registration number MH-35 AJ-2547, allegedly came from the opposite direction and collided with the Bolero near Nagra.
The collision was so severe that the Bolero was badly damaged, trapping several passengers inside the wreckage.
Villagers Join Rescue Operation
After hearing the impact, nearby villagers and passersby rushed to the spot and helped with the rescue operation.
Gondia Rural Police also reached the scene and shifted the injured and bodies to the district hospital. The bodies had to be removed from the mangled vehicle using a gas cutter, according to the report.
Doctors at the hospital declared six people dead, while the injured were admitted for treatment. Three of them are said to be in critical condition.
FIR Registered Against Truck Driver
Gondia Rural Police registered Crime No. 527/2026 based on the statement of injured passenger Rajendra Shivcharan Pandhare, a resident of Pipalgaon Khurd in Balaghat district.
The case has been registered against truck driver Mohsin Khan, 32, a Gondia resident, under Sections 281, 106(1), 125(a) and 125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The investigation is being conducted under the guidance of Police Inspector Vaibhav Pawar by Assistant Police Sub-Inspector Varsha Naitam.
