Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh: In broad daylight on Saturday, August 8, 2026, an electricity contractor Shivkumar Tiwari was allegedly murdered in a brutal revenge attack linked to the 2024 killing of Adesh Chaudhary in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. Police have arrested eight accused in connection with the case.
First Attack Took Place During Brahmabhoj
The incident began in Ahirauli Khurd village, where a Brahmabhoj, or ceremonial feast, was being organised following the death of Chhedi Chaudhary. Shivkumar Tiwari was sitting in a queue for the meal when he was allegedly attacked from behind with a crowbar.
He sustained serious injuries and was being taken to the hospital for treatment.
Auto Allegedly Stopped, Victim Attacked with Sword
Police said that while Shivkumar was being taken to the hospital, the vehicle was allegedly stopped by the accused. Shivkumar was then allegedly forced out of the auto and attacked multiple times with a sword, resulting in his death.
A video of the incident later went viral on social media, purportedly showing the main accused, Rahul Chaudhary, attacking Shivkumar with a sword. It was claimed that he struck the victim around 22 times.
Murder Linked to 2024 Killing, Say Police
According to police, the killing was linked to an old rivalry and was allegedly carried out in retaliation for the 2024 murder of Adesh Chaudhary, in which Shivkumar Tiwari had been named as an accused.
Police have registered a case and arrested eight people, including the main accused Rahul Chaudhary, Ashutosh, Bind Niwas and Bhanu Chaudhary.
SHO Removed, Heavy Police Force Deployed
SSP Dr Kaustubh has removed Sikriganj Police Station Officer Anju Chaturvedi from her post with immediate effect over alleged negligence in the case.
Police said action is being taken against the arrested accused under the National Security Act (NSA). Given the tension in the area, a heavy police force has been deployed in Ahirauli Khurd village, where the situation is being closely monitored.
