Gorakhpur rape case verdict in 16 days, accused sentenced to life imprisonment

Gorakhpur: The court delivered its verdict within 16 days in the rape case of a 6-year-old girl in the PPganj police station area of ​​Gorakhpur, sentencing the accused, Ashok Nishad, to life imprisonment.

Special Judge for the POCSO Act, Ashok Kumar Yadav, also imposed a fine of 55,000 rupees on the accused.

Mother also convicted for concealing evidence
The accused’s mother, Sunita Devi, was also found guilty in the case. The court sentenced her to 4 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of 5,000 rupees for concealing evidence.

The investigation revealed that the mother had hidden the accused’s blood-stained clothes after the incident.

The incident occurred on the night of February 20-21, when the girl was attending a wedding at her grandmother’s maternal home. She suddenly disappeared during the night.

When the family searched for her, they caught the accused raping the girl, who then fled from the scene. The girl was admitted to BRD Medical College in critical condition.

The police acted promptly, filing a charge sheet within five days, and the case was heard expeditiously.

Severe punishment based on witnesses
Based on the testimony of 13 witnesses and all the evidence presented during the trial, the court considered it a heinous and inhuman crime.

The court clarified that there is no room for leniency in such cases and awarded life imprisonment under Section 6 of the POCSO Act.

It was also ordered that the fine amount be used for the victim’s rehabilitation, education, and future.

Family gets justice
After the sentencing, the victim’s family expressed satisfaction. The girl’s grandmother, emotionally speaking, said that the brutal man had robbed her granddaughter of her childhood.

Police officials stated that the accused were convicted through swift prosecution under “Operation Conviction.”
