16-Year-Old Girl Allegedly Gang-Raped Inside Sleeper Bus; Driver, Conductor Arrested

New Delhi: A 16-year-old Class 11 student was allegedly gang-raped inside a sleeper bus while travelling from Greater Noida towards Delhi, with police arresting the driver and conductor in connection with the case.

The incident reportedly took place on August 4 after the girl, who is from Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district, left home and was trying to reach her cousin’s residence in Noida’s Sector 63. According to police sources, heavy rain and darkness caused her to get off at the wrong location near Pari Chowk in Greater Noida.

Girl allegedly offered lift in sleeper bus

According to the investigation, the girl was trying to find a way to reach Noida Sector 63 when she signalled a passing sleeper bus to stop. The driver and conductor allegedly told her that they were going towards Sector 63 and offered her a lift.

The girl then boarded the bus, which was reportedly empty at the time.

Police sources said the conductor allegedly began behaving inappropriately with the girl after the bus started moving. The driver and conductor are accused of sexually assaulting her and threatening her when she resisted.

The bus subsequently travelled towards Delhi, covering around 47 km before reaching the Kashmere Gate area.

Girl approaches police, accused arrested

According to reports, the girl was dropped near Ring Road close to Kashmere Gate late at night. She then approached the Kashmere Gate police and informed them about the alleged assault.

Police registered a case and initiated an investigation. The accused driver, identified as Kuldeep, and conductor, identified as Sandeep, were subsequently arrested from a bus parking area in Timarpur.

The sleeper bus allegedly used in the incident has also been taken into police custody and sent for forensic examination.

Police are examining CCTV footage and other available evidence as part of the investigation.

Investigation underway

The case has raised concerns over the safety of women and minors travelling in private passenger buses, particularly vehicles operating with sleeper-style interiors and curtains.

Police are continuing their investigation to establish the complete sequence of events and collect further evidence.

As the victim is a minor, her identity and other details that could lead to her identification have not been disclosed.
