GST officials bust Rs 9.43 crore tax evasion racket in Punjab’s iron and steel industry

Ludhiana, February 10: Acting on specific intelligence, officials of the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Commissionerate, Ludhiana, have unearthed GST evasion of ₹9.43 crore in the iron and steel manufacturing sector.

According to official sources, on February 5, 2026, multiple searches were conducted at units located in Mandi Gobindgarh in Fatehgarh Sahib district of Punjab. During this operation, GST officials detected large-scale tax evasion in the iron and steel sector.

During the investigation, a key person involved in the case was arrested, while an amount of ₹1.8 crore has been recovered as GST liability so far.

Sources said the investigation into the case is ongoing and efforts are being made to unravel the entire tax evasion network and identify other entities and individuals involved.

The CGST Ludhiana Commissionerate reiterated its commitment to detecting tax fraud cases and ensuring a level playing field for honest taxpayers.
