Gujarat: Adolescent girls are getting empowered through Saksham Yuvika project

Gandhinagar: A unique initiative by the Gujarat government is bringing positive changes to the lives of adolescent girls in Navsari district. Launched three years ago by the District Panchayat, the Saksham Yuvika Project focuses on the physical and mental health, nutrition, and awareness of girl students studying in primary schools.

Focus on Health, Counselling, and Career Guidance

Under this project, regular health checkups, expert counselling sessions, and career guidance are being provided to adolescent girls. As a result, a significant reduction in the number of female students dropping out of school has been recorded.

In 2025 alone, more than 7,000 adolescent girls from 202 schools have benefited from this scheme.

The Saksham Yuvika Mobile App has also been developed for real-time monitoring of the project.

Initiative towards mental and physical empowerment

Pushpalata, District Program Officer, ICDS, Navsari, stated that this project, initiated by the Navsari District Panchayat on behalf of the Gujarat Government, is attracting considerable attention due to its success.

Under this scheme, various activities are being organised for adolescent girls studying in grades 7 and 8, aimed at strengthening their physical and mental health, empowering them, and making them self-reliant.

Emphasis on Awareness, Nutrition, and Self-Reliance

Under the project, adolescent girls are being educated by experts on topics such as menstrual hygiene, reproductive health, financial literacy, cybersecurity, and cyberbullying.

Project Incharge Komal Thakur stated that the relevant departments are also providing necessary guidance to the students regarding future career options.

She said, “The main objectives of the Saksham Yuvika Project are to conduct health checkups for adolescent girls, provide supplementary nutrition, raise awareness about the harms of child marriage and teenage pregnancy, educate them about laws related to preventing violence against women, and guide them towards better career opportunities.”

This year, special sessions were organized in 202 primary schools in Navsari district to educate over 7,000 adolescent girls.
