Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has approved a major infrastructure boost for tribal regions, clearing road development works worth ₹362 crore while simultaneously launching irrigation projects valued at ₹1,613 crore in Tapi district.
The ₹362 crore allocation focuses on improving road infrastructure in tribal areas, aiming to enhance connectivity in remote villages. These projects are expected to provide better access to markets, healthcare, and education facilities, thereby improving the overall quality of life for tribal communities.
Officials stated that the road works will strengthen rural transport networks and support economic activity by ensuring smoother movement of goods and people. Improved connectivity is also seen as a critical factor in accelerating development in underserved regions.
Alongside road infrastructure, the Chief Minister launched irrigation projects worth ₹1,613 crore in Tapi district. These initiatives are aimed at addressing water scarcity and boosting agricultural productivity in tribal belts.
The irrigation schemes are expected to provide reliable water supply to thousands of hectares of farmland, enabling farmers to cultivate multiple crops throughout the year. This will significantly improve income levels and reduce dependency on erratic rainfall.
Earlier irrigation initiatives in the region, including lift irrigation systems linked to reservoirs like the Ukai Dam, have already demonstrated success by supplying water to remote and elevated tribal areas.
The projects are part of the state government’s broader strategy to accelerate development in tribal regions. The Gujarat government has been consistently investing in infrastructure such as roads, irrigation, housing, and water supply to uplift tribal communities.
The Chief Minister reiterated that these initiatives align with the vision of inclusive growth and aim to bring marginalized populations into the mainstream of development. He emphasized that improved irrigation facilities will not only enhance agricultural output but also create long-term economic stability for farmers.
With assured irrigation and improved road connectivity, the projects are expected to transform the rural economy in South Gujarat. Farmers will benefit from better access to markets, reduced transportation costs, and increased crop yields.
Experts believe that such integrated infrastructure development—combining roads and irrigation—plays a crucial role in sustainable rural growth. It not only strengthens agriculture but also generates employment opportunities and promotes regional development.
The dual investment in road and irrigation infrastructure marks a significant step toward holistic development in Gujarat’s tribal regions. By focusing on connectivity and water resources, the state government aims to create a strong foundation for economic growth and improved living standards in these areas.
