Gurdaspur: ₹62 lakh in cash found in a car; two Gujarati youths arrested

Police arrested two youths from Gujarat with ₹62 lakh in cash early Friday morning in Gurdaspur, Punjab. They were apprehended at a checkpoint at Babri Naka, an entry point to the city. Both youths have been handed over to the Income Tax Department for further investigation.

DSP Shahbaz Singh stated that the police were conducting vehicle checks at Babri Naka when they stopped a white Creta car that lacked a number plate. The occupants of the car did not possess any vehicle-related documents.

Had set out from Gujarat to visit Srinagar

During the search, the police recovered ₹62 lakh in cash from the car. The two arrested youths are residents of Ahmedabad and are reported to be under the age of 20. During initial questioning, they told the police that they had left home to visit Srinagar.

Income Tax Department conducting questioning

Following the recovery of such a large amount of cash, the investigation has been handed over to the Income Tax Department. Officials are questioning the youths to determine the source of the funds, the actual owner of the money, and the intended purpose for which the cash was to be used.
