Gurdaspur Border Outpost Shooting: Border on alert; Terror Claim Under Probe

Gurdaspur: An Assistant Sub-Inspector, Gurnam Singh, and Home Guard jawan Ashok Kumar were found shot dead at a police outpost in Adian village in Gurdaspur, approximately 1.5 km from the India–Pakistan border.

Officials said the ASI sustained a gunshot wound to the head, while the Home Guard jawan suffered a chest injury. Their bodies were discovered after repeated calls to the outpost went unanswered.

According to police sources, the ASI was found seated on a chair, while the Home Guard was lying under a quilt on a cot inside the outpost.

CCTV Shows Suspects Fleeing

CCTV footage released late Sunday evening reportedly shows suspects fleeing the scene on a motorcycle. Forensic teams recovered around four shell casings from the site and are examining ballistic and technical evidence.

A large police contingent rushed to the scene after being alerted by the village head. The area has since been cordoned off, and investigations are ongoing.

Terror Claim by Tehreek-e-Taliban Hindustan Under Scrutiny

A poster circulated online claimed responsibility for the killings in the name of Tehreek-e-Taliban Hindustan, warning of continued attacks on Indian government personnel.

However, Gurdaspur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Aditya said authorities have not verified the authenticity of the poster. He described the viral post as “fake” and stated there is no confirmation about the presence of such an organisation in the area.

Multiple Angles Being Investigated

Police are probing all possibilities, including murder, terrorist involvement, and even murder-suicide. However, officials noted that all weapons at the outpost were intact, making a terror strike less likely at this stage. The ASI’s carbine was reportedly found fully loaded, reducing the likelihood of a self-inflicted scenario.

The Border Security Force has been alerted due to the outpost’s proximity to the international border. DIG AK Virdi also visited the scene to assess the situation.

Authorities said technical and forensic teams are analysing all available evidence to determine the exact circumstances behind the killings.

Checkpoints, Patrols and Public Advisory

Police forces deployed in Ajnala are conducting continuous patrols, and checkpoints have been set up on all major roads in the border belt. Officials described the measures as precautionary to prevent any untoward incident.

The administration has appealed to citizens to cooperate with law enforcement and refrain from believing unverified claims. Authorities reiterated that any form of anti-social activity will not be tolerated and that strict action will be taken against those found involved.

Investigations remain ongoing as forensic and technical teams work to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the killings.
