Winter wreaks havoc in Gurugram: Temperature drops to 0.6 degrees Celsius, IMD issues orange alert

Gurugram: Amid the ongoing cold wave in North India, temperatures in Gurugram, Haryana, reached a new low. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city recorded a minimum temperature of 0.6 degrees Celsius, the lowest in the state.

According to data from the IMD’s Chandigarh office, Gurugram recorded the lowest temperature in Haryana, followed by Narnaul at 1.2 degrees Celsius. This drop is significantly faster than in previous days—the minimum temperature in Gurugram was 1.8 degrees Celsius on Saturday and 4.1 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

Meanwhile, severe cold continued in Delhi as well. On Monday, the minimum temperature at Lodhi Road was recorded at 3 degrees Celsius, while a day earlier it had reached 2.9 degrees Celsius in Ayanagar.

MD issues orange alert, warning of cold wave and dense fog continuing

In view of the rapidly falling temperatures, the IMD has issued an orange alert for Gurugram and surrounding areas for the next two days. The weather department has also warned of a fresh cold wave.

An IMD official said, “Earlier, the minimum temperature in the district was recorded at 3.8 degrees Celsius on January 3. Now, a sharp drop of about 3.5 degrees has been observed compared to Sunday. Cold wave and dense fog conditions are likely to persist in Gurugram until Tuesday.”

Frost frozen in fields, photos shared on social media

The effects of the severe cold were also visible on the ground. Frost was seen on fields and vegetation in several villages on the outskirts of Gurugram early Monday. According to weather experts, the formation of frost indicates that temperatures have reached near or below freezing, although official figures vary slightly in urban areas.

Many people shared photos of frost on cars and fields on social media. Some residents were also seen checking the intensity of the cold with temperature gauges, indicating the severity of the winter in the area.

Ground frost has been reported from #SainikFarms and nearby areas of #Gurgaon and #SouthDelhi as temps dipped to -1 to +1.5°C range in these areas.
