Gurjeet Singh Aujla slams Government over Pahalgam Attack, Ceasefire, and security policy

New Delhi: Congress MP from Amritsar, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Modi government during a debate in Parliament, raising serious concerns over the handling of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, the ceasefire with Pakistan, and India’s diplomatic stance towards China.

Addressing the Lok Sabha, Aujla accused the Centre of politicizing national security and failing to provide accountability for key developments in recent months. Referring to the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 Indian tourists were killed, he alleged that even after nearly 100 days, the government had not identified the attackers or explained how they managed to infiltrate Indian territory. He criticized Home Minister Amit Shah for not making a statement on the matter and questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to attend a Panchayat Diwas celebration in Bihar just two days after the incident.

Aujla also raised concerns over the May 7 retaliatory strikes by the Indian Army on terror camps in Pakistan. He referred to Pakistani claims that five Rafale jets had been shot down a statement dismissed by Indian authorities  but demanded that the government publicly display all 35 Rafale aircraft in a parade to counter misinformation.

Questioning the abrupt ceasefire between India and Pakistan following the operation, the Congress MP said the three-day conflict concluded without any formal agreement or declaration, which he claimed was unprecedented in military terms. He linked the timing of the ceasefire to concerns about a potential attack on an Adani Group solar plant, hinting at possible business considerations influencing the decision.

Aujla also criticized the government for allegedly using the military for political messaging. He objected to recent remarks by an army officer about the Golden Temple, accusing the Centre of trying to politicize religious sentiments for electoral purposes.

Addressing India’s relations with China, Aujla accused the government of maintaining trade ties with Beijing despite its financial support to Pakistan, which he said was directly aiding terrorism. He noted that Punjab, particularly Amritsar, continues to face the brunt of cross-border terrorism, citing recent grenade attacks on local police stations.

He concluded by calling for greater transparency from the government and warned against using national security issues for political or commercial gain.
