On the occasion of the martyrdom day of the fifth Guru, Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji, a special jatha (group) of pilgrims departed today for Pakistan to visit historic Gurudhams (holy Sikh shrines) under the leadership of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). Immense enthusiasm was witnessed among the pilgrims at the Attari-Wagah border. The pilgrims commenced their journey amidst chants of “Bole So Nihal, Sat Sri Akal.”
According to reports, visa applications were submitted for a total of 561 pilgrims; the Pakistan High Commission issued visas to 541 of them, while the applications of 20 pilgrims could not be approved.

Gurinder Singh Mathrewal, Secretary of the Dharam Parchar Committee, stated that the main religious observances marking the martyrdom day of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji would be held in Pakistan on June 18. After visiting various historic Gurdwaras, the *jatha* will participate in these events and return to India on June 19.
The jatha is being led by SGPC member Bhupinder Singh Bhalwan, with Gurmeet Singh Bahu appointed as the deputy leader. During the journey, the pilgrims will pay obeisance at several historic Gurudhams—including Gurdwara Janam Asthan Nankana Sahib, Gurdwara Panja Sahib, and Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib—and participate in religious gatherings.

Expressing their emotions, the pilgrims said that visiting these holy sites was a cherished dream that was finally coming true. Major Singh, a pilgrim from Moga, mentioned that he was undertaking this journey for the first time and that his entire family was extremely excited about it. Meanwhile, renowned writer and social activist Lakhwinder Singh Lakha Salempuri remarked that he had prayed for years to visit these holy shrines, and today, that opportunity had finally arrived.
