Two Workers Fall From 19th Floor At Gurugram Construction Site, One Dies; Colleagues Assault Officials

Gurugram: Two young workers fell from the 19th floor of an under-construction building at a SmartWorld project in Gurugram’s Sector 113 on Saturday, leaving one dead and another seriously injured. The deceased was identified as 19-year-old Dilkhush, a resident of Katihar, Bihar.

The second worker, identified as Vasudev from West Bengal, became stuck on an intermediate floor after the fall and sustained serious injuries.

One Worker Dies, Another Seriously Injured

According to preliminary information from company officials, the accident occurred when the two workers suddenly fell while construction work was underway. The company said initial investigations suggested that the accident may have occurred after the workers slipped.

Dilkhush died at the spot, while Vasudev was rescued after becoming trapped on an intermediate floor and was subsequently found to have suffered serious injuries.

Workers Allegedly Assault Company Officials

Following the incident, tension escalated at the construction site as colleagues of the deceased stopped work and confronted company management officials who had arrived at the spot.

The workers allegedly held the officials inside the premises and accused the company of negligence over safety arrangements. When some officials attempted to leave the site, the workers allegedly chased them and assaulted them with sticks. Safety helmets were also reportedly thrown at the officials during the confrontation.

The officials eventually managed to escape the site.

Police Reach Spot, Probe Safety Arrangements

As the situation escalated, Bajghera police station SHO Sunil reached the construction site with a police team. Police officials pacified the agitated workers and assured them that appropriate and impartial action would be taken.

The situation subsequently returned to normal, while police began investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.

SHO Sunil said that no formal complaint had been received from either side so far. Police are currently treating the incident as an accident while investigating the safety arrangements provided to workers at the site and examining whether any negligence was involved.

Workers have alleged that adequate safety equipment was not provided to those working at height. Police are verifying these claims as part of the investigation.
