Gurugram, Haryana: In a major milestone for India’s logistics and technology sectors, AI-powered drone delivery services have begun operations in Gurugram, marking a leap forward in autonomous urban logistics. The initiative, led by Gurugram-based startup Skye Air Mobility, was unveiled as part of the India AI Impact Summit 2026 and represents one of the first fully operational drone-to-doorstep delivery systems in the country.
Skye Air’s system integrates aerial drones and artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled ground robots to deliver packages directly to customers’ residences and commercial complexes, without human intervention. The innovative service reflects India’s growing push toward AI-led automation and future-ready logistics infrastructure.
At the heart of this new delivery model is an AI-integrated network that connects central distribution hubs, called Skye Ports, to final consumer endpoints using aerial drones and autonomous machines. Drones carry packages weighing up to around 10 kg to designated smart mailboxes secure “Arrive Points” deployed within residential societies or commercial complexes. These units are developed in collaboration with NASDAQ-listed Arrive AI and act as intermediate delivery stations.
From these smart mailboxes, AI-powered ground robots often referred to as autonomous rovers take over the final leg of delivery. The rovers autonomously transport packages from the mailbox to the customer’s doorstep, where users securely access their items using one-time passwords (OTPs). The entire process is orchestrated through Skye Air’s AI system, enabling seamless coordination between drones, robots, and delivery endpoints.
Ankit Kumar, Founder and CEO of Skye Air Mobility, noted that the AI-driven setup minimizes human involvement, ensuring efficiency, speed, and secure delivery while addressing critical urban challenges like congestion and pollution.
Skye Air’s pilot phase, conducted over the past two and a half years, has already seen nearly 3.6 million successful drone deliveries, collectively saving over 1,000 tons of carbon emissions by reducing dependency on road-based transport.
The autonomous delivery setup not only accelerates timing and reliability for consumers but also promises lower traffic congestion and reduced environmental footprint, critical concerns in urban centers like Gurugram where road traffic and emissions have surged in recent years.
By automating last-mile logistics traditionally one of the most resource-intensive and costly segments the system aims to set a new standard for sustainable urban delivery networks.
The deployment in Gurugram was also accompanied by international collaborations aimed at expanding the autonomous delivery network. In addition to Arrive AI, Skye Air is working with other global tech partners to enhance its infrastructure and ground-robot automation capabilities.
These partnerships are part of a broader strategic vision to scale operations nationally and globally. Gurugram with its dense urban population and proximity to the National Capital Region has been chosen as the launchpad for this futuristic delivery model, before rolling it out to other cities across India and eventually in international markets.
Experts believe the introduction of AI-enabled drone delivery marks a turning point in how goods are transported in urban landscapes. As e-commerce continues to expand rapidly in India, efficient and scalable delivery solutions are becoming increasingly critical. Autonomous drones and robots could significantly reshape last-mile logistics, offering faster deliveries, environmental benefits, and reduced reliance on human couriers.
Moreover, the successful implementation in Gurugram may encourage regulatory bodies and other cities to adopt similar systems, potentially accelerating future innovations in AI, robotics, and smart city logistics.
Residents in parts of Gurugram have already begun experiencing deliveries via this advanced system, bringing everyday items such as groceries, essentials, and retail goods directly to their doors with minimal delivery time and human effort.
If this model proves scalable and efficient, it could reduce delivery costs and improve accessibility, especially for quick-commerce and time-sensitive services.
