Gurugram: A truck carrying 673 kg of cannabis, valued at around Rs 1.25 crore in the international market, was intercepted by Gurugram Police near Rajiv Chowk. Two men were arrested after police allegedly found the drugs hidden beneath a load of plastic granules. The consignment was being transported from Odisha to Bhiwadi in Rajasthan.
The arrested men have been identified as Sabir, 34, a resident of Udaipur village in Rajasthan’s Khairthal district, and Sanawar, 19, from Kishangarh. Sabir owned and drove the truck, while Sanawar worked as his helper.

According to police, the recovery was made by a team led by Sub-Inspector Arun, who heads the Sector-65 Crime Branch. The team received a tip-off about a Tata truck with a Rajasthan registration number being used to transport a large quantity of cannabis.
Cannabis Hidden Under Plastic Granules
Acting on the tip-off, the police team set up a check near Rajiv Chowk and stopped the truck. At first, the vehicle appeared to be carrying plastic granules. It had 767 bags and 15 containers filled with the material.
However, a detailed search revealed 23 large sacks of cannabis hidden underneath the load. The total weight of the recovered drugs was 673 kg.
Police said the plastic granules had been used to conceal the consignment and avoid suspicion while transporting it across states.
Driver Allegedly Flew to Odisha to Finalise Deal
During questioning, Sabir allegedly told police that he had flown to Odisha to finalise the deal and supervise the loading of the cannabis. He then planned to use his own truck to carry the consignment to Bhiwadi.
According to investigators, Sabir had been promised Rs 2 lakh for delivering the shipment to Rajasthan. He had hired Sanawar as a helper and was paying him a monthly salary of Rs 20,000.
Police are now questioning both men to find out who supplied the cannabis and who was supposed to receive it in Rajasthan. Investigators are also trying to identify other people linked to the alleged smuggling operation.
Third Alleged Smuggling Trip
Police said the accused disclosed during interrogation that they had transported cannabis in the same manner on two earlier occasions. They allegedly hid the drugs beneath plastic granules during those trips as well.
This was their third alleged attempt, but the truck was intercepted before the consignment could reach its destination.
The investigation is continuing, with police working to establish the full network behind the operation and identify others who may have been involved.
