Gurugram Hit-and-Run Accused Kalyan Baisla Arrested In Rajasthan After Attempt-to-Murder Charge Added

New Delhi: Kalyan Baisla, the accused in the Gurugram hit-and-run case involving woman biker Sia, has been arrested in Rajasthan’s Dausa, officials said on Tuesday. He will be brought to Gurugram soon.

Earlier in the day, Gurugram Police added an attempt-to-murder charge to the FIR registered in connection with the incident after Sia and her family approached the police seeking stringent action against the accused.

Attempt-To-Murder Charge Added After CCTV Analysis

Gurugram Police had taken suo motu cognisance of a video showing a car hitting a female biker on Golf Course Road and registered a case at Sector 56 police station.

After conducting a detailed investigation and analysing CCTV footage, police added Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for attempt to murder. The provision carries a punishment of up to 10 years.

Police had earlier said the accused car driver would also be arrested soon. Following Baisla’s arrest in Dausa, he is expected to be brought to Gurugram for further investigation.

Gurugram Police said that lawlessness would not be tolerated and that strict action would be taken against those found responsible.

    Sia’s Family Seeks Strictest Action

The development came after Sia’s family submitted her written statement to the Station House Officer (SHO) of Sector 56 police station. Police are also recording her detailed verbal statement as part of the investigation.

Sia’s family member Deepankar said they had requested the SHO to visit them to record her statement as she was experiencing severe muscle pain and muscle pulls and her health had deteriorated amid the stress following the incident.

He said the family wanted the strictest possible charges to be pressed, including attempt to murder, hit-and-run and harassment.

Deepankar also said Sia had confirmed that there were four people inside the car and that she had clearly seen the faces of two of them.

    Haryana Minister Assures Strict Action

Haryana Minister Gaurav Gautam assured that strict action would be taken against anyone found guilty in the case.

He said whoever was found guilty would be apprehended, adding that even if the accused turned out to be a member of his own family, action would be taken against them.

Accused’s Family Calls It An Accident

Meanwhile, Advocate Naveen Baisla, who is representing Kalyan Baisla’s family, denied the allegations and claimed that the incident was merely an accident.

He alleged that the bikers were provoking Baisla and sometimes gestured as if asking him to race. According to the lawyer, Baisla increased the speed of the car slightly to move ahead but lost control near a U-turn, where the car touched the bike.

The lawyer rejected the allegations against Baisla and said he was instead asking the riders to slow down.

The police investigation is continuing to establish the sequence of events and circumstances surrounding the collision.
