Gurugram Hit-and-Run: Accused of hitting woman bike rider arrested in Rajasthan

New Delhi: Driver Kalyan Bainsla, accused of hitting a woman riding a sports bike with his car in Gurugram, was arrested in Dausa, Rajasthan on Tuesday, police said.

Gurugram police have also charged the accused with attempt to murder based on CCTV footage. This offense carries a punishment of up to 10 years.

Accident occurred on Golf Course Road

The incident occurred on Sunday on Golf Course Road in Gurugram. A white sedan suddenly veered right and hit Siya, who was riding a sports bike.

Video of the incident shows Siya, who was wearing a helmet, falling to the road after the collision. Her Aprilia RS 457 bike also dragged for a considerable distance on the road, emitting sparks.

Siya later spoke to the media, stating that she would continue her fight in this case and wished that no female biker should face such a problem in the future.

The accused said, “I felt very sorry for her.”

Before his arrest, accused Kalyan Bainsla gave an interview to the media from an undisclosed location. He claimed that he did not know whether the biker was a man or a woman. He also said that only one side of the incident had been presented.

The accused also questioned the lack of videos involving one of Siya’s male friends. In the interview, he stated that he felt very sorry for the girl.

However, Siya questioned this claim, saying that the accused’s behavior after the accident did not indicate his concern for her.

Siya said, “If he was sorry, why didn’t he stop?”

Siya said that if the accused truly felt sorry for her, he should have stopped the car and checked if she was injured.

She said the consequences of the accident could have been much more serious. She could have broken bones and died instantly.

Siya alleged that the video clearly shows the car occupants did not even stop after the accident and instead drove away. Her father, Roshan Chauhan, also stated that the family will continue their fight until the accused are punished.
