Gurugram Youth Death: Family Alleges Police Inaction, Says Accused Roaming Free

Gurugram: The family of Sarthak Mattu, a 34-year-old Gurugram resident who died in a hit-and-run accident near Delhi’s Rajokri flyover, has accused the police of negligence and delaying action against the accused. His parents have demanded that the case be investigated under murder charges, alleging that the accused are still roaming free despite crucial evidence being available soon after the incident.

Family Questions Delay in Police Action

Sarthak’s parents, Surendra Mattu and Anuradha Mattu, residents of Ridgewood City in Gurugram, said an eyewitness had photographed the speeding black Thar involved in the accident and immediately shared its registration number with the police.

According to the family, despite having the vehicle’s details, the police took nearly 40 to 50 hours to identify and apprehend the accused. They also alleged that although blood samples were collected for alcohol testing, the accused were later released.

“We lost our son, but those responsible are roaming free,” the family said while questioning the handling of the investigation.

    Parents Demand Murder Charges

The couple said an ACP from Delhi’s Vasant Kunj division met them on Thursday, during which they detailed the alleged lapses in the investigation. They urged authorities to register the case under murder charges, claiming the police failed to act promptly despite having key evidence.

Surendra Mattu alleged that the police kept giving the family conflicting information and questioned why it took more than 36 hours to complete the initial investigation after the accident.

    What Happened on June 25?

According to the family, Sarthak left his Gurugram home at around 6 am on June 25 for work in Noida. After crossing into Delhi, his motorcycle was allegedly hit by a speeding black Thar near the Rajokri flyover.

The family claimed the SUV was travelling at around 110–120 kmph and was attempting to overtake another vehicle from the left when it struck Sarthak’s motorcycle. The impact threw him onto the road, and the vehicle allegedly fled the scene.

Sarthak, who worked as a manager at an event company, succumbed to his injuries. His family has demanded a thorough investigation and strict action against those responsible.
