33-year-old woman shot dead by husband in Gwalior

Gwalior: A 33-year-old woman was shot dead in broad daylight on a busy street in Gwalior, allegedly by a man against whom she had filed a police complaint three days ago. He then remained with the body, and the police used tear gas to take him into custody.

Sources said the two were previously in a relationship and had got married in the Arya Samaj, though they were still married to their respective spouses.

According to witnesses, Arvind Parihar (33) stopped the victim, Nandini, on a busy street and opened fire. “I was returning from court when I heard gunshots… a man was firing at a woman… three bullets were fired in front of my eyes. She fell on the road while people stood helpless,” said advocate MP Singh, who was present at the scene at the time of the incident.

After the shooting, Parihar remained sitting next to her body in the middle of the road. When the police reached the spot, he pointed his pistol at them. “The accused also tried to threaten the police team, but with the use of tear gas shells and minimal force, he was subdued and taken into custody. His weapon has been seized,” said CSP Nagendra Sikarwar.

On September 9, just three days before the murder, Nandini filed a complaint at the SP’s office, accusing Parihar of cheating her into marriage despite her being married and having children. She alleged that Parihar, who worked as a contractor, had been harassing her for months, threatening her and trying to get her back into the relationship.

In the initial investigation, it was revealed that the accused was already married and had two children, and the victim was also married and had a child.

“During initial interrogation, the accused further revealed that in 2023, without informing their families, he and Nandini also got married at the Arya Samaj temple in Murar. Without divorcing their spouses, they continued to live together. After 2023, constant fights and arguments started between them. As a result, Nandini registered three cases against Parihar,” a senior police officer said.

It further emerged that in 2017, Nandini was arrested in a murder case and was released in 2022 after serving a sentence of four and a half years.

In 2024, Nandini filed another report at the Sirol police station, alleging that Parihar had tried to run her over with a car. A case of attempt to murder was registered, and Parihar was arrested.

“However, Nandini later filed an affidavit in the court denying the incident, on the basis of which the accused was granted bail. He remained in jail for about three months. In other cases filed by Nandini too, he was acquitted through compromise as Nandini herself had denied the incidents in her testimony,” the officer said.

After being released on bail, Parihar and Nandini came into contact again. “During this period, it came to light that Nandini was pressurising Parihar to transfer his property to her and marry his wife,” the officer claimed.
