Jammu: A special court in Jammu has issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against Hafiz Saeed in connection with the Pahalgam terror attack case, stating that his arrest and custodial interrogation are necessary for a fair and complete investigation.

The warrant was issued on an application filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) after the agency named Saeed as the alleged mastermind in a supplementary chargesheet filed earlier this month.

Court Says Custodial Interrogation Needed

The special court, while passing the order, noted that the accused was allegedly evading arrest and that his interrogation was required to take the investigation forward.

The court issued the warrant under Section 75 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and forwarded it to the NIA Jammu unit for execution as per legal procedure.

The court observed that the arrest and custodial interrogation of the accused were required for a “fair, complete and effective investigation.”

NIA Names Hafiz Saeed as Alleged Mastermind

The NIA, in its supplementary chargesheet, identified Hafiz Saeed as one of the accused in the case and alleged his involvement in the conspiracy behind the attack.

Saeed is the founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a Pakistan-based terror organisation, and has been designated as a terrorist under India’s Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

According to the investigating agency, Saeed is currently based in Pakistan and has been avoiding arrest.

Pahalgam Attack Left 26 People Dead

The case relates to the Pahalgam terror attack of April 22, 2025, in which 26 people were killed in Jammu and Kashmir.

The NIA had filed the first chargesheet in the case in December 2025 and later submitted a supplementary chargesheet naming additional accused as part of the ongoing investigation.

The latest court order allows the investigation agency to continue legal proceedings against Saeed, including further action as per the law.
