‘Theatrical performances of ‘Hamare Ram’ kick off in Mohali; Punjab government to organize 41 shows across the state

Mohali witnessed the opening performance of the acclaimed theatrical production ‘Hamare Ram’, as Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann joined the audience for the inaugural show featuring celebrated actor Ashutosh Rana.

The performance marks the beginning of a major cultural initiative by the Punjab Government, which will organise 41 free shows of ‘Hamare Ram’ across 12 cities during August and September.

The initiative seeks to bring the story and ideals of Lord Sri Ram closer to people through theatre while highlighting values such as truth, righteousness, compassion, harmony and social unity.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Highlights Cultural and Spiritual Values

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said Punjab has a rich cultural and spiritual legacy that needs to be preserved and passed on to future generations.

He said the decision to make the performances free of cost would allow people from different sections of society to attend the shows and experience the production.

According to the Chief Minister, the theatrical presentation provides an opportunity to connect younger audiences with India’s spiritual and moral traditions through an engaging contemporary art form.

41 Performances Planned in 12 Punjab Cities

The government has planned 41 performances of ‘Hamare Ram’ in 12 cities across Punjab. Following the opening show in Mohali, performances will be organised in Bathinda, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Hoshiarpur, Amritsar, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Patiala, Ludhiana, Sangrur and Khanna.

The programme is being positioned as a statewide cultural outreach effort aimed at making theatre accessible to a wider audience and encouraging people, particularly young people, to engage with India’s traditional stories and values.

Ashutosh Rana’s Portrayal of Ravan Draws Attention

One of the major attractions of the production is the presence of renowned actor Ashutosh Rana, who plays the character of Ravan.

His powerful stage presence and interpretation of the complex character have been among the highlights of the production. The play explores the Ramayana from different perspectives, offering audiences an interpretation that goes beyond a conventional retelling of the epic.

Mohali Audience Applauds Grand Production

The inaugural Mohali show received an enthusiastic response from the packed auditorium. Audiences remained engaged throughout the performance as dramatic sequences, music, visual effects and powerful dialogues combined to create an emotionally charged atmosphere.

Ashutosh Rana’s portrayal of Ravan received particular appreciation, with his performance drawing repeated applause. The ensemble cast also received praise for bringing the epic’s central characters to life on stage.

The combination of devotional elements and elaborate theatrical presentation turned the opening show into a celebration of India’s cultural and spiritual traditions.

Punjab Government Points to Earlier Cultural Initiatives

The Chief Minister also referred to other cultural and spiritual programmes organised by his government, including ‘Ek Shaam Shiv Ke Naam’, which was held across districts of Punjab.

He also highlighted programmes being organised in connection with the 650th Parkash Purab of Shri Guru Ravidas Ji Maharaj, describing these initiatives as part of the government’s broader efforts to recognise and promote the spiritual heritage of different communities.

150 Artists Take Part in the Production

Welcoming the theatrical team to Punjab, the Chief Minister noted that around 150 artists are associated with the production.

He highlighted the participation of people from different faiths and said such collective cultural events can reinforce the spirit of unity and harmony.

Mann also reiterated that the state government has increased its focus on the promotion of culture and said preserving Punjab’s heritage is a shared responsibility.
