Punjab to Conduct Driving License Tests Using ‘Artificial Intelligence’; HAMS Technology Launched

The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has launched a new initiative to modernize and enhance the reliability of the driving license process. Issues such as server problems or long waiting times during driving tests will now be significantly reduced. The Punjab government is implementing an Artificial Intelligence-based automated driving test track system. This new technology has been named HAMS (Harnessing Automobile for Safety).

What is HAMS Technology?

HAMS is an AI-based smart system designed to make the driving license test fully automated, impartial, and transparent. This technology will significantly minimize human intervention during the driving test. First, the applicant’s identity will be verified using modern technologies, including face scans, iris scans, and biometric verification. This ensures that the person taking the test is the same individual who applied for the license.

Artificial Intelligence to Evaluate Driving Skills

Once the identity is verified, the applicant must drive the vehicle on an automated driving test track. High-tech cameras and sensors installed on the track will continuously monitor every movement of the vehicle. The AI ​​system will automatically analyze various parameters such as vehicle speed, proper lane usage, parking, vehicle control, turning techniques, and adherence to traffic rules.

There will be no need for an official to award marks during the test; the AI ​​system will automatically assign scores based on performance and declare the pass or fail result immediately upon the test’s completion.

What Are the Benefits of HAMS?

This new system will make the driving license test faster, simpler, and more transparent than before. As the evaluation will be entirely technology-driven, fairness will be enhanced.

It will ensure that only eligible applicants who drive correctly receive a driving license. Server-related issues and long waiting times are expected to decrease.

Fraudulent practices, such as another person taking the test on behalf of the applicant, will be prevented. The functioning of the Transport Department will become more modern and effective. Road safety will also be strengthened as drivers with better driving skills obtain licenses.
