Hansi Villagers Meet CM Saini Over Bhakra Pipeline T-Connection Dispute, Protest Decision Pending

Hansi: The 40-day protest by villagers in Chanout Village, Hansi, Haryana, demanding a water connection to the Bhakra drinking water pipeline, has reached a decisive stage. On Thursday, an 11-member committee of villagers met with the Chief Minister.

During the discussion, the Chief Minister stated clearly that providing connections to the relevant pipeline is not possible under current law. He stated that doing so is not within the scope of the regulations. He assured the villagers that providing clean drinking water and other essential amenities is the government’s responsibility, and the government will fully fulfill this responsibility.

The Chief Minister told the protest committee that he planned to visit Hisar in a few days. Whenever he visited Hisar, he would also visit the village of Chainat. He stated that there would be no shortage of development work in rural areas and that the government was continuously working for the development of villages.

Meanwhile, after the meeting with the Chief Minister, the villagers’ committee said they would visit the protest site and discuss the matter with the people involved in the protest and the villagers. Only then will a final decision be made regarding the future strategy and the movement.

Four rounds of talks have failed

Previously, the villagers had held meetings with Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda, PWD Minister Ranbir Singh Gangwa, and Inspector General Kuldeep Singh. In these meetings, the government clarified that it was not possible to connect the village to the pipeline being laid under the Amrit-2 scheme.

The government has proposed an alternative to the villagers. Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, a separate pipeline will be laid from Kharkadi Head or Rajli Head to the village of Chanout. This plan will also include a separate power line, a generator in case of power outages, and an additional 50-horsepower motor to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply to the village.

In a press conference held at the PWD Rest House in Hansi on Wednesday, Minister Ranbir Singh Gangwa reiterated that providing a T-connection from the existing Bhakra pipeline is not technically and strategically feasible. He said that if the villagers agree to the proposal for a separate pipeline, arrangements will be made to supply drinking water to Chanout village before Hansi city receives water.

All eyes are now on the upcoming meeting between the Chief Minister and the rural delegation. People in the area are considering this a crucial meeting toward resolving the entire dispute and are hopeful that a positive decision may emerge today.
