Hansi Residents Protest Over Drinking Water Crisis, Demand Early Completion of Bhakra Pipeline Project

Hansi, Haryana: Hundreds of residents of Hansi on Monday staged a protest demanding the immediate completion of the Bhakra drinking water pipeline project, saying delays in the project have intensified the city’s drinking water shortage. The protesters marched to the District Secretariat and submitted a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini through Deputy Commissioner Rahul Narwal.

The protest was led by Ajay Saini, former councillor and representative of the sitting councillor of Ward 4, with participation from local residents, traders and political representatives.

Pipeline Work Stalled Over Chainat Village Demand

According to the memorandum, work on the Bhakra pipeline has been halted after Chainat village demanded a T-connection from the same pipeline meant to supply drinking water to Hansi city.

The residents stated that the Haryana government, including Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and two state ministers, had already assured the villagers that there would be no shortage of drinking water. They also pointed out that the government had announced plans to lay a separate 10-inch pipeline for Chainat village.

The protesters urged the government to implement the separate pipeline project so that work on Hansi’s pipeline can resume without further delay.

‘City and Village Should Both Get Water’

Former Sarv Vyapar Mandal president Bajrang Bansal said the residents are not opposed to providing drinking water to villages.

“We want both the village and the city to receive their rightful share of water. The needs of one area should not leave lakhs of people in another area struggling for drinking water,” he said.

Aam Aadmi Party leader Sachin Jain also supported a balanced solution, stating that he had visited the protest site in Chainat village and believes every citizen deserves access to adequate drinking water.

He urged the government to find a solution that ensures justice for both rural and urban residents.

Warning of Continued Protest

Several prominent local leaders, including Municipal Council Vice-Chairman Anil Bansal, Naveen Thakur, former Chairman Vinod Saini, Vinay Jain and Vijay Jain, joined the demonstration.

The protesters warned that if the Bhakra pipeline project is not restarted and completed at the earliest, they will continue their agitation through peaceful and democratic means until the city’s drinking water problem is resolved.
