HANSI: A tense situation prevailed in Haryana’s Hansi city on Saturday after the administration launched a large-scale garbage clearance drive using police protection and JCB machines, triggering protests by sanitation workers.
The confrontation began near Multan Colony Chowk, opposite the Grain Market, where the administration initiated operations to remove accumulated waste. As soon as sanitation workers learned about the deployment of JCB machines, a large number of them rushed to the spot and staged a strong protest, raising slogans against the administration.
Workers Oppose Garbage Removal Operation
The protest intensified as sanitation workers attempted to stop the operation. Police intervened and detained several protesters, including Sanitation Workers’ Union President Baljit and some female sanitation workers.
The detention further escalated tensions at the site, prompting authorities to increase security arrangements.
Administrative officials, including ADC Lakshit Sareen, DSP Vinod Shankar, Tehsildar Anil Kumar and Naib Tehsildar Suresh Kumar, along with Municipal Council representatives, remained present during the operation.
JCB Tyres Deflated During Protest
Earlier in the day, another tense situation unfolded near the Municipal Council office when the administration brought JCB machines to clear garbage from the area.
According to officials, protesting sanitation workers allegedly deflated the tyres of the JCB machines in an attempt to halt the garbage removal drive.
Despite resistance, the administration continued the operation under police supervision and dispatched JCBs to several locations across the city.
Heavy Police Deployment in Hansi
A heavy police force, including female personnel, was deployed at the protest sites to maintain law and order amid rising tensions.
Ward 11 Councillor Praveen Valmiki and several sanitation workers also raised slogans against the government during the protest.
Later, the detained sanitation workers were released by the administration.
