Farmers Protest at Hansi Mandi, Block Gate Over Demands

Hansi, April 20: On Monday, farmers staged a protest against the government at the grain market (Anaj Mandi) in Hansi, Haryana. The farmers blocked the gates of the Market Committee office, staged a sit-in protest in front of it, and raised slogans vociferously.

BKU joins protest over procurement rules, wheat delays

Ramavatar Tayal of the Grain Market Association, along with several leaders and members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), participated in this demonstration. Farmer leaders Ranvir Malik and Suresh Koth stated that the protest is being held to oppose the new crop procurement rules, the biometric verification process, and the delays currently being experienced in the lifting (transportation) of wheat.

Demand to Expedite and Streamline the Wheat Lifting Process

Suresh Koth remarked that until the wheat is lifted from the market, the payment for the crops will not be credited to the farmers’ bank accounts. He demanded that the government expedite and streamline the wheat lifting process. Meanwhile, farmer leader Sandeep Chahal also raised a demand for compensation for the crops damaged in a fire incident at the dumping station in Hansi.

A large number of farmers and Arhtiyas (commission agents) were present at the site during the protest. They warned that if their grievances are not resolved promptly, they will intensify their agitation further.
