Suspended DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar’s Case to Be Heard in CBI Court Chandigarh

Chandigarh: The troubles of suspended IPS officer Harcharan Singh Bhullar have intensified after the Ministry of Home Affairs granted prosecution sanction to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to proceed against him in a corruption case.

The case will now be heard in the special CBI court in Chandigarh, with the next hearing scheduled for February 22.

CBI Submits Approval Order in Court

Since Bhullar is an IPS officer, the CBI required prior approval from the central government to prosecute him. On Tuesday, the agency submitted the sanction order received from the Home Ministry before the court.

The CBI has also filed a supplementary charge sheet in the case, incorporating fresh evidence and additional witnesses. The move is seen as a step towards strengthening the prosecution’s case against the officer.

Bail Plea Rejected by High Court

In a significant setback for Bhullar, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had earlier rejected his bail application.

With the prosecution sanction now in place and additional evidence submitted, the case is set to move forward in the special CBI court.

Further proceedings are awaited as the matter comes up for hearing later this month.
