Hardik Pandya said after MI’s defeat – We have to look at our shortcomings

Mumbai: Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya said the team will have to work on its shortcomings again after the five-time champions suffered their fourth consecutive defeat against Punjab Kings in Match 24 of IPL 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium.

Brilliant innings from de Kock and Naman Dheer
Quinton de Kock played a brilliant innings of 112 not out off 60 balls (8 fours, 7 sixes). He and Naman Dheer (50 runs, 31 balls) shared a 123-run partnership for the third wicket, rescuing the team from 12/2.

But MI couldn’t capitalize on this strong start and could only manage 195/6, losing the match by 20 runs.

    Punjab’s easy win
Punjab Kings chased down the target with ease. Thanks to brilliant innings from Prabhsimran Singh (80*) and Shreyas Iyer (66), the team scored 198/3 and won by 7 wickets with 21 balls to spare.

    Hardik Pandya’s statement
After the match, Hardik Pandya said he didn’t have much to say because the team fell short of a team that performed better in every department.

He said, “Honestly, I don’t have much to say. We have to look at where we’re lacking—whether it’s individual, at the group level, or in planning—and fix it.”

    Signs of major team changes
He praised Punjab Kings, saying they took better advantage of the conditions.

Pandya further stated that the team now has to decide whether to make tough decisions or return with the current squad. His statement hinted at the possibility of major changes at MI, or the season could be even more difficult.
