She explained that she didn’t have a passport, so she had to go to the US office to mark her attendance.

She had been marking her attendance every six months. She said she had arrived at the office on the scheduled date to mark her attendance, and that’s when she was arrested.

Arrested and locked in a cold room:

Harjeet Kaur says, “Immediately after my arrest, I was locked in a room that was extremely cold. When I asked for something to protect myself from the cold, I was given a piece of aluminium foil. I kept shouting through a mirror, but no one heard me.”

Spent 10 days on chips, biscuits and water: 

She said- The next morning, I was handcuffed and shackled, put in a car and taken to Bexvid. I was kept there for 10 days. I was not told anything about what was being done to me. During my 10 days in different detention cells, I had to face a lot of torture. It felt as if I was a criminal. I was given a small rag bed to sleep on. I survived on that for 10 days. I used to eat only chips, 2 biscuits and water. They used to give me cold bread with cheese and beef which I could not even eat.

“The handcuffs were removed after I boarded the plane,” Harjeet says. “After 10 days, I was deported to India. I was shackled and handcuffed, but they were removed after I boarded the plane. I was then brought to India and released on September 24th.”
