SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami Dismisses Resignation Rumours, Urges Respect for Sikh Institutions

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has clarified the demand for resignation by the opponents and the allegations being made. He said the claims being made against him were baseless and all decisions were taken as per rules and procedures.

Dhami appealed that the matter should not be unnecessarily disputed, and peace be maintained. He also said that further reaction is awaited. Earlier, he met Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gadgaj and Jathedar Giani Tek Singh of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib at Sri Akal Takht Sahib Secretariat. During this, he reiterated that the rumors being spread about his resignation are wrong.

Decision taken due to administrative reasons

The case pertains to the formation of a seven-member committee related to the recruitment of the Shiromani Akali Dal. According to the information, this committee was formed for the recruitment process on 2 December 2024, which also included the name of Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami. However, Dhami later clarified that at that time he had decided to recuse himself from the committee due to personal and administrative reasons.

Dhami said he had sent a written letter to the then Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh requesting him to withdraw his name from the committee. According to Dhami, his decision was taken purely keeping in mind the circumstances and the situation at that time. There was no dispute or mala fide intention involved.

Respect for the dignity and principles of Sikh institutions

Now that the matter has come up again, he has clearly presented his side to the present Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gadgaj. He says that he has always respected the dignity and principles of Sikh institutions and will continue to do so.
