Harjinder Singh Dhami Secures Fifth Term as SGPC President, Defeats Mitthu Singh by 99 Votes

Amritsar: Harjinder Singh Dhami has been elected president of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) for the fifth time. He defeated Akali Dal (Retd. Surjit) candidate Mitthu Singh by 99 votes.

With this, Raghujit Singh Virk was elected Senior Vice President, Baldev Singh Junior Vice President and Sher Singh Mand General Secretary.

At the beginning of the election, Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami appealed for a show of hands, but his appeal was rejected. Following this, the election process has now begun through voting.

Akali Dal leader Daljit Singh Cheema said, “This is a huge success. Sukhbir Singh Badal had announced Advocate Dhami’s name after consulting all the members. He received 117 votes, while Mitthu Singh received only 18 votes.”

He thanked all the members for once again electing an honest person. Last year, when the vote was cast, the opposition received 33 votes, and this time the number has dropped even further.

Meanwhile, Mitthu Singh said that those who contested the election against Dhami have also been elected as members of the final committee.
