Harry Boxer Detained in US: Lawrence Bishnoi Gang Operative to Be Brought Back to India

New Delhi: One of the key operatives of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, who is wanted in several extortion and murder cases, has been arrested in the United States, and the Indian agencies are likely to take legal steps to bring him back to the country, officials said on Saturday.

Boxer was arrested by American authorities in California late on Friday after the Delhi Police Special Cell and Haryana Police Special Task Force (STF) provided them with specific inputs.

Officials said Boxer was an associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and was operating from the US. He was allegedly part of an extortion racket and had also threatened several Bollywood celebrities via social media and audio recordings.

Boxer’s arrest is considered a major breakthrough in the probe into the activities of Lawrence Bishnoi gang abroad.

Harry Boxer Admits to Shooting Incident Outside Rohit Shetty Home

Boxer had admitted to being behind the shooting incident outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s home in Mumbai’s Juhu area in February this year.

Five bullets were fired outside the home of the film-maker, but nobody was hurt as a security guard immediately informed the police. The Mumbai Police arrested four people in connection with the incident.

Boxer’s name came up in connection with an extortion threat made against actor Tusshar Kapoor, allegedly by his men, in which they demanded 5 crore rupees from him.

But the Mumbai Police Crime Branch ruled out Boxer’s involvement as the voice from the extortion audio did not match his voice sample.

Harry Boxer Part of Extortion Racket Linked to Lawrence Bishnoi Gang

Boxer’s real name is Harichand Jat and he belongs to the Bamsur area of Rajasthan’s Kotputli-Behror district.

Officials said that Boxer picked up boxing while staying in Jaipur, hence the nickname of Boxer. Before getting involved in crime he had worked as a boxing coach. He had also prepared for competitive exams.

It is not clear when Boxer went abroad, but police believe he was running an extensive racket from abroad and was playing a key role in the activities of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

His name has come up in several criminal cases in Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana.

Boxer was also connected to the shooting incident at comedian Kapil Sharma’s cafe in Canada.

India will Take Legal Steps to Bring Boxer Back

Now that Boxer has been arrested in the United States, Indian agencies are likely to take the necessary legal steps to bring him back to India.

This is likely to be done with help from the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Officials said that Boxer was also arrested in January this year after applying for asylum in the US, however he was allowed to leave by the immigration authorities.

Boxer’s latest arrest in California comes as he is under investigation for several criminal cases and alleged activities of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang abroad.
