BJP Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Mahajan Discharged After Health Scare, Expresses Gratitude to the Supporters

Shimla: Rajya Sabha MP and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Harsh Mahajan has recovered after being briefly hospitalised following a health scare during a party protest in Shimla on Saturday. Doctors said he was admitted due to dehydration and low blood pressure and confirmed that there was no heart blockage or any other cardiac ailment.

The 70-year-old BJP leader fell ill while participating in a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Shimla against the delay in elections to Zila Parishads and Panchayat Samitis. After addressing the media, he reportedly experienced dizziness and chest discomfort, prompting party leaders and supporters to rush him to the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) for treatment.

BJP Leaders Visit Mahajan at Hospital

Himachal Pradesh BJP President Rajeev Bindal and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur visited Mahajan at IGMC to enquire about his health. They also met the doctors attending to him and were informed that his condition was stable and improving rapidly.

The BJP leaders said party workers across Himachal Pradesh were concerned after learning about Mahajan’s sudden illness but expressed relief after doctors ruled out any serious cardiac problem.

Mahajan Thanks Well-Wishers

After his recovery, Mahajan thanked party workers, supporters and well-wishers for their prayers and concern.

“I am completely healthy now. Due to a sudden health-related issue, I had to undergo medical treatment at the hospital for a short while. By the grace of God, timely treatment by doctors, and the prayers and good wishes of my family, friends and supporters, I have fully recovered,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude to everyone who reached out through phone calls and messages, saying their affection and blessings were his greatest strength.

Who Is Harsh Mahajan?

Harsh Mahajan is a veteran politician from Himachal Pradesh and currently serves as a BJP Rajya Sabha MP. A three-time MLA, he was associated with the Congress for several decades before joining the BJP ahead of the 2022 Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections, describing the Congress as “directionless” and “lacking vision.”

Before switching parties, Mahajan was considered a close associate of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu during their time in the Congress.

Dramatic Rajya Sabha Victory in 2024

Mahajan entered the Rajya Sabha in February 2024 after a closely contested election that triggered a political crisis in Himachal Pradesh.

The BJP candidate defeated Congress nominee Abhishek Manu Singhvi after both secured 34 votes in the 68-member Assembly. Reports of cross-voting by at least six Congress MLAs led to a tie, and Mahajan was eventually declared the winner through a draw of lots, marking one of the most dramatic Rajya Sabha elections in the state’s history.

His victory had significant political ramifications, intensifying the crisis faced by the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh.
