The Haryana government has approved prosecuting suspended former CBI judge Sudhir Parmar on corruption charges. The ACB will now be able to file a charge sheet against the former judicial officer in court. According to the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Code of Criminal Procedure, state government approval is mandatory before prosecuting any public servant. The State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau sought permission from the state government to prosecute Parmar after an 18-month investigation.
The former judge was accused of accepting bribes and leniency in the money laundering case involving real estate company M3M promoters Basant Bansal and Pankaj Bansal, and IREO owner and managing director Lalit Goyal and his nephew Ajay Parmar.
Prior to the ACB, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had arrested the owners and managing directors of the real estate company for allegedly defrauding homebuyers and others. While the ED was conducting its investigation, the ACB found screenshots of WhatsApp chats between Parmar and another individual, in which he was demanding ₹5 to ₹7 crore (approximately $1.5 million) from M3M owners for helping them with ED cases.
In this same chat, the second individual claims to have already paid Sudhir Parmar ₹5 crore (approximately $1.5 million) in the IREO case. Subsequently, the ACB filed an FIR against Sudhir Parmar. He is also accused of purchasing property in Gurugram with the bribe money. The ED later took over the investigation, raided his home, and arrested him. He was subsequently suspended.
