CM Nayab Saini on Delhi visit tomorrow, discussion on SYL likely

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini will be on a Delhi tour on Tuesday. Here he will participate in two important meetings. The first meeting will be held with the BJP MPs of the state at Haryana Bhawan at noon, in which various issues related to the Center and the state will be discussed.

The second meeting will be held with the Central Government and Punjab at 4:00 pm regarding the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL).

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had said in the last meeting that if Punjab gets water from the Ravi and Chenab rivers, they will cooperate in giving water to Haryana. At the same time, Haryana Chief Minister Saini had expressed hope for a positive discussion on this issue, as well as stressed that this dispute between Punjab and Haryana should end soon.

    What is SYL Dispute?

The SYL canal dispute is decades old, the purpose of which is to distribute water equally between the two states by connecting the Sutlej and Yamuna rivers. Haryana has completed the construction of 92 kilometers of canal on its side, while Punjab stopped the construction of 122 kilometers midway. The Supreme Court ruled in favour of Haryana in 2002, but Punjab cancelled the water agreement in 2004, further complicating the dispute.
