Haryana: cold and dense fog intensifies; meteorological department predicted rain

Dense fog blanketed most parts of Haryana on Wednesday morning, causing considerable inconvenience to people. Rain is expected in Haryana after nearly 60 days, but only in some parts of the state. The Meteorological Department has predicted light to moderate rainfall in half of Haryana on December 31st and January 1st. Prior to this, some areas of Haryana received rain in the early days of November. After that, there was no rain until December 30th. Due to the lack of rain, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in several cities has exceeded the prescribed limits. This is also affecting crops.

Zero rainfall in December 

November typically sees an average rainfall of 3.8 mm. Last November, only 0.8 mm of rain was recorded. December usually records an average rainfall of 8.8 mm, but so far, not a single drop of rain has fallen. If it doesn’t rain on December 31st, it will be the third time in 24 years that zero rainfall has been recorded.

In 2024, 26.1 mm, in 2023, 2.9 mm, in 2022, 0.0 mm, in 2021, 2.5 mm, in 2020, 2.2 mm, in 2019, 11.8 mm, in 2018, 5.4 mm, in 2017, 5.3 mm, and in 2016, 2.6 mm of rainfall was recorded.

Environmental expert Dr. Ravindra Khaiwal said that due to the lack of rain, pollutant particles are suspended in the air. This is causing sore throats, coughs, and other problems for people. Rain washes away these pollutant particles. The wind speed is also low at this time, which is also contributing to the problem.

Daytime temperatures dropped further; rain expected in these cities today

The cold has intensified during the day in Haryana. The average daytime temperature in the state has dropped by 2.3 degrees. The lowest maximum temperature in the state was recorded in Sonipat at 14.4 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the lowest temperature of the night, 3.8 degrees Celsius, was recorded in Narnaul. The meteorological department has issued a yellow alert for fog. Rain is also expected on January 1st in Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Karnal, Sonipat, Panipat, and Jind.
