Haryana Cold Wave: Red Alert for Dense Fog, Cold Day Conditions Till Dec 26

Sirsa: A period of bone-chilling cold has begun in Haryana. A red alert for dense fog and cold day has been issued until December 26th. Dense fog is expected today and tomorrow in Sirsa, Fatehabad, Hisar, and other districts in northern Haryana. Dense fog has been engulfing Sonipat and Jhajjar since morning. The effects of haze are also visible in Fatehabad.

Meteorologists predict a sudden increase in cold weather after Christmas. Cold day conditions will prevail in Haryana. According to the latest data released by the Meteorological Department, the state’s minimum temperature has dropped. Narnaul was the coldest area in the state on Monday night, with a temperature of 6.0°C.

IMD Issues Red, Orange, and Yellow Alerts

Although the average minimum temperature remains 2.2°C above normal, fog and cold-day conditions may impact normal life over the next four days. A yellow fog alert has been issued today for Sirsa, Fatehabad, Hisar, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Jhajjar, Mahendragarh, Rewari, Gurugram, Faridabad, Palwal, Nuh (Mewat), Rohtak, and Jind.

Meanwhile, the fog is impacting transportation services. In Panipat, more than 15 trains were delayed. The Katihar-Amritsar 15707 Express was delayed by seven hours, the Malwa Express by nearly five hours, and the Unchahar Express by seven and a half hours. The Shaan-e-Punjab Express was also delayed by seven hours. Meanwhile, in Hisar, the Vande Bharat Express from Ajmer to Chandigarh was delayed by five hours.

What is the meaning of a cold day?

When the minimum temperature is less than 10°C and the maximum temperature falls at least 4.5°C below normal, it is called a ‘cold day’. On 25th and 26th December, two major cities of Haryana, Hisar and Gurugram, will face this situation. Talking about the maximum temperature in the last 24 hours, Gurugram was the hottest with 22.1°C. On the other hand, more humidity has been recorded in the Pandu-Pindara area of ​​Jind.

December 23-24 (Yellow Alert): Dense fog is expected in Sirsa, Fatehabad, Hisar, and other districts in northern Haryana. The administration has advised drivers to exercise caution.

December 25-26 (Orange and Red Alert): Extremely dense fog and cold-day conditions will prevail in the districts of central and southern Haryana (Rohtak, Jhajjar, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Rewari). This means the sun will not shine even during the day, and the chill will persist.
