Haryana Shivers as Cold Wave Intensifies, Dense Fog Covers Several Districts

Chandigarh: The effects of cold winds continue to linger in Haryana. The entire state is shivering in the severe cold. Last night, Mahendragarh recorded a temperature of 1.6 degrees Celsius, the lowest recorded this season in the state. The state’s minimum temperature last night also dropped by an average of 0.9 degrees Celsius. Fog enveloped more than 10 districts in the morning. According to weather experts, the cold is yet to intensify.

Average Minimum Temperature Drops by 0.9°C

According to the Meteorological Department (IMD) Chandigarh, the average minimum temperature in Haryana dropped by 0.9 degrees. Although temperatures remained around normal limits, the cold in the morning and late at night was making people shiver.

Mahendragarh Coldest at 1.6°C

Except for Mewat and Ambala, the rest of the state’s districts recorded temperatures of 5 degrees Celsius or lower. Mahendragarh recorded the lowest temperature of 1.6 degrees Celsius, followed by Sonipat at 2.9 degrees Celsius. These are the lowest temperatures recorded so far this season in both districts.

Meanwhile, Narnaul recorded a minimum temperature of 3.5 degrees Celsius, Rohtak (AWS) 4.7 degrees Celsius, and Hisar 4.0 degrees Celsius. Among other districts, Nuh recorded the highest temperature of 7.7 degrees Celsius. Ambala followed with 6.0 degrees Celsius, Karnal 4.4 degrees Celsius, and Sirsa 4.2 degrees Celsius. Gurugram and Faridabad also recorded temperatures around 5 degrees Celsius.

Yellow Fog Alert Issued for January 10

The Meteorological Department in Haryana has issued a cold day alert for dense fog and several districts on January 10th. A yellow fog alert has been issued for Ambala, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat, Yamunanagar, Kaithal, Jind, Rohtak, Faridabad, Gurugram, Palwal, and Nuh. Meanwhile, cold waves will prevail in Hisar, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Fatehabad, Sirsa, Mahendragarh, and Rewari, which border Rajasthan.

Night temperatures continue to fall

This could lead to a further drop in the minimum temperature. According to the Meteorological Department, relief from the cold is expected until January 13th. On Friday, after 11 a.m., there was light sunshine for two to three hours, resulting in a slight increase in the maximum temperature on Friday compared to Thursday.

Day temperature increased, but still below normal

According to the Meteorological Department, the average maximum temperature increased by 2.6 degrees on Friday, but it still remained about 2.7 degrees below normal. The highest maximum temperature in the state was recorded at Gurugram (KVK) at 18.4 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature in Hisar was 14.7 degrees and in Karnal it was 16.2 degrees Celsius.
