Chandigarh: The cold wave continues to grip Haryana. However, the average minimum temperature in the state increased by 0.6 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours. The lowest temperature was recorded at 4.5 degrees Celsius in Narnaul, the coldest place in the state. However, the minimum temperature there was 3 degrees Celsius a day earlier.
Night Temperatures Remain Low in Major Cities
Meanwhile, last night the minimum temperature was recorded at 7.7 degrees Celsius in Chandigarh, 8.3 degrees Celsius in Ambala, 7.7 degrees Celsius in Hisar, 6.5 degrees Celsius in Karnal, and 7.6 degrees Celsius in Rohtak. The cold also persisted in Faridabad and Gurugram, where temperatures were recorded at 7.5 and 5.9 degrees Celsius, respectively. The minimum temperature in Sirsa was 5.7 degrees Celsius and in Bhiwani, 5.5 degrees Celsius.
Frost Likely in Several Districts
According to the Chandigarh Meteorological Center, the state will continue to experience a double attack of cold wave and cold daytime temperatures over the next 48 hours. A further drop of 1 to 2 degrees is possible in night temperatures, potentially reaching freezing temperatures. Frost conditions are likely in the state.
IMD Issues Yellow Alert for January 6
The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the state today, January 6th. Icy winds have increased the chill in the plains, causing daytime temperatures to remain well below normal. Cold winds have been blowing in Sonipat and surrounding districts since morning, leaving people shivering. There is light fog in Kaithal, while the fog is dense in Mahendragarh.
Dense Fog and Icy Winds Increase Chill
A slight increase in minimum temperatures is expected only after January 8th, but until then, a cold wave will persist during the morning and night hours. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of frost and cold wave conditions, especially in the districts of southern and western Haryana. Night temperatures in these districts could drop below 4 degrees.
Narnaul Records Coldest Temperature
Narnaul experienced the coldest night in the state last night. The minimum temperature here was recorded at 3 degrees Celsius, which is 1.5 degrees below normal. Hisar came in second, with a night temperature of 3.6 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, temperatures in most cities across the state are below normal. Only Sonipat recorded a temperature 4.4 degrees Celsius above normal. The state’s highest minimum temperature was recorded here, at 9.7 degrees Celsius.
Cold wave will increase the cold: Weather expert
Meanwhile, Dr. Madan Khichad, Head of the Department of Agricultural Meteorology at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, said that cold north and northwest winds are causing night temperatures to drop. Due to the humidity, dense fog and mist may be seen in most areas of northern and southern Haryana during the early morning and late night.
During this period, there is a possibility of a slight increase in the day temperature and along with a slight change in the winds, there is also a possibility of cold winds blowing at light to moderate speed.
