Cold Wave Intensifies in Haryana After Rain, Frost and Fog Grip Several Districts

Hisar: Despite the rain a day earlier, the cold has intensified in Haryana on Saturday. A cold wave is sweeping across the state. While the daytime temperature dropped by 8 degrees on Friday, the minimum temperature also dropped to 7.2 degrees last night. Frost was observed in Hisar, Sirsa, and several other areas in the morning. Although the weather is currently clear and sunny, the cold wave has intensified the chill.

Minimum Temperature Drops Sharply Across State

According to the latest data released by the Chandigarh center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the average minimum temperature across the state has dropped by a significant 7.2°C in the past 24 hours. The state’s average temperature is now 2.3°C below normal.

Hisar Coldest City at 1.6°C

Coldest city: Hisar was the coldest place in the state today, with the minimum temperature dropping to 1.6°C. The temperature here saw a significant drop of 10.7°C compared to yesterday. Frost was observed in many areas of Hisar in the morning.

Cold wave impact: After Hisar, Narnaul (2.5°C) and Sirsa (2.7°C) also experienced severe cold. Frost also settled in Sirsa. Sargathal in Sonipat recorded a low of 2.1°C.

Rainfall Adds to the Chill

Moderate to heavy rainfall was recorded in many parts of the state. Ambala received the highest rainfall of 45.5 mm, while Yamunanagar (Hathnikund Barrage) recorded 38.5 mm and Chandigarh 27.1 mm.

Fog Warning Issued for Several Districts

A fog warning has been issued today for Hisar, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Rewari, Mahendragarh, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Gurugram, Faridabad, Palwal, Mewat, Fatehabad, and Sirsa districts. Visibility in these districts may be extremely low during the morning hours, potentially affecting road, rail, and air traffic. However, there is currently no weather warning in place for Ambala, Panchkula, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Panipat, Kaithal, and Sonipat districts.

Heavy Rainfall Recorded on Friday

According to Meteorological Department data, many parts of the state received good rainfall on January 23. Ambala received the most rainfall. After receiving 14.5 mm of rain in the morning, a massive 42.2 mm fell during the day, bringing the total rainfall to 56.7 mm.
Rain also hit Karnal and Yamunanagar:

Karnal recorded a total of 31.0 mm of rain, while heavy rain at the Hathnikund Barrage in the evening led to a total of 30.5 mm. In other parts of the state, Bhiwani received a total of 21.0 mm of rain, while Panipat recorded 19.0 mm. Rohtak and Sonipat recorded 16.5 mm and 17.5 mm of rain, respectively.

Drop in maximum temperature

Looking at the temperature situation, the state’s average maximum temperature dropped by about 8 degrees Celsius. Bhiwani recorded the highest temperature of 19 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature in Hisar was 15.6 degrees, Rohtak 16.3 degrees, Karnal 13.6 degrees, and Ambala 12.8 degrees. In many districts, temperatures dropped by 5 to 12 degrees in a single day.
