Haryana Shivers on Republic Day as Cold Wave Hits; Rain, Strong Winds Forecast for Next 3 Days

Chandigarh: Haryana is experiencing a severe cold wave today, marking Republic Day. Although the state is sunny, the cold wind is making people shiver. Frost has also settled in Hansi and other areas.

State Temperature Remains 3°C Below Normal

According to data released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the state’s average minimum temperature dropped by 0.8°C last night. Currently, the state’s temperature remains 3°C below normal. Hisar recorded a temperature 5.5°C below normal.

Last night, the lowest temperature in the state was recorded at Canal Rest House, Sargath (AWS) in Sonipat district. The mercury here dropped to 2.0°C. The temperature here has dropped by a significant 3.1°C in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, due to the influence of an active western disturbance, Haryana will experience a major change in weather starting tonight. A cold wave will prevail on January 27th and 28th, and scattered rain is also expected.

Rainfall Forecast for Next Two Days

According to forecasts, light to moderate rainfall is expected in several districts of Haryana from the night of January 26th to January 28th. This could lead to a drop in day and night temperatures. While the rain is expected to provide partial benefits to farmers for their Rabi crops, the increased cold may impact normal life.

Strong Winds Alert for January 27

The Meteorological Department has advised special vigilance on January 27th. Thunderstorms and strong winds of up to 40 to 50 kilometers per hour are expected in many parts of the state on this day. Damage to open areas is feared due to the strong winds. People have been advised to stay away from trees, power poles, and unbuilt structures.

Cold Wave Warning Till January 29

A cold wave warning has also been issued for some areas of Haryana. Cold wave conditions are expected to persist on January 27, 28, and 29. Due to the drop in minimum temperatures, the cold will be felt more during the morning and night hours. The elderly, children, and the sick need to exercise special caution.
