Haryana: Encounter between Bahadurgarh STF and criminals in Sonipat; two injured, five apprehended

Acting on a major operation late Friday night, the Bahadurgarh STF unit apprehended five accused individuals following a police encounter. This operation was carried out during the night of March 20–21, 2026. All these accused individuals were wanted in connection with Case No. 42, dated March 4, 2026, registered at the Beri Police Station in District Jhajjar.

Names of the accused 

According to the police, the arrested accused have been identified as Chitranjan alias Manjit (son of Rajendra, resident of Kansala); Vishwajeet alias Vini (son of Daljeet, resident of Kansala, District Rohtak); Deepansu alias Chhota (son of Dalbir, resident of Makdoli); Ashok alias Shoki (son of Dharmbir, resident of Makdoli); and Rohit (son of Satyanarayan, resident of Bhali Anandpur, District Rohtak).

Accused opened fire on the STF team 

The STF team had received intelligence regarding the presence of the accused, following which they cordoned off the area to apprehend them. The police first fired warning shots into the air, cautioning the accused to surrender; however, instead of surrendering, the accused opened fire on the police team with the intent to kill.

During the exchange of fire, one bullet struck ASI Vikas’s bulletproof jacket, while another bullet hit ASI Dharmvir’s bulletproof jacket. Both police personnel escaped unhurt thanks to their bulletproof jackets. Acting in self-defense and in retaliation, the police returned fire, resulting in bullet injuries to the right leg of accused Vishwajeet alias Vini and the left leg of accused Chitranjan alias Manjit. Both injured accused were subsequently overpowered and taken into custody.

FIR registered at the Murthal Police station 

In connection with this incident, a case has been registered at the Murthal Police Station (District Sonipat) under Sections 109(1), 121(1), 132, and 221 of the BNSS, as well as Sections 25(1B)(a), 54, and 59 of the Arms Act. Following preliminary medical aid, the police have admitted the injured accused to the Government Hospital in Sonipat. Meanwhile, the remaining three accused—Deepansu alias Chhota, Ashok alias Shoki, and Rohit—were also arrested at the scene.
