The cabinet meeting has begun under the chairmanship of Haryana CM Naib Saini. In the meeting, Haryana’s new industrial policy will be approved. In addition, about 26 agenda items have been placed in the meeting, which are under discussion.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Haryana may also happen soon, and this is also being deliberated in the cabinet meeting. Meanwhile, amid the oil crisis in the country, Haryana is now preparing to promote electric vehicles (EVs).
Under this, the registration fees and road tax for electric vehicles purchased in the state will be completely waived. It is likely that this proposal will be approved in the cabinet meeting.
EV Registration Free in Chandigarh
The transport department has prepared this proposal for electric vehicles. In the proposal, similar to the neighboring states of Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh, registration has been made completely free. Earlier, in Haryana, a 20 percent discount was given on the registration fee for electric vehicles.
Although several states are also running plans to provide subsidies worth lakhs of rupees on the purchase of electric vehicles, the Haryana transport department’s proposal does not include any plan to provide a subsidy. For now, this proposal by the department has been approved by Transport Minister Anil Vij and sent to the Chief Minister.
EV policy formulated 4 years ago
In fact, to keep the city pollution-free, an electric vehicle policy was prepared in Chandigarh 4 years ago, which, in addition to a subsidy on the purchase of EV vehicles, also waived the registration fees. The local people as well as people from Haryana benefited from this proposal by the Chandigarh administration.
It was reported that people living in Haryana also took advantage of the registration scheme in Chandigarh by using rent deeds and other documents to get free registration. Only after the number of registrations in Chandigarh increased did the pressure on the Haryana government to provide free registration for EV vehicles also increase.

Deliberation on the Subsidy Scheme as well
To promote electric vehicles in the state, the government has prepared a special proposal for free registration. Under this proposal, people of Haryana will not have to pay any kind of fee for the registration of two-wheeler, three-wheeler, and four-wheeler electric vehicles.
For instance, registration and road tax will be completely waived. Meanwhile, a draft of the new EV policy is being prepared by the Industries Department in the state, in which a subsidy scheme can also be formulated to promote electric vehicles.
Provision to promote EVs in the budget
Special provisions regarding electric vehicles were also made in Haryana’s budget. In his budget, the Chief Minister had mentioned that the current 20 percent registration exemption on EV vehicles will be increased further. It is believed that in this context, the government has prepared a proposal to increase the registration exemption for EV vehicles from 20 percent to 100 percent.
