Haryana Weather: Maximum Temperatures Cross 30°C, Impacting Rabi Crops

Sirsa: The effects of the heat wave have already begun to be felt in Haryana in the last week of February. At the end of February, afternoons are experiencing April-like heat. According to the Meteorological Department, five cities in the state recorded maximum temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius.

Rising Temperatures in Day and Night: A Threat to Rabi Crops

At the same time, minimum temperatures are also steadily rising, averaging about 2 degrees above normal. This increase in daytime and nighttime temperatures is likely to impact Rabi crops, including wheat.

According to weather department data, Bhiwani recorded 31.0°C, Nuh 30.9°C, Mahendragarh 30.3°C, Gurugram 30.2°C, and Narnaul 30.2°C. Temperatures in Hisar and Bhiwani hovered around 30 degrees Celsius.

Minimum Temperatures on the Rise

Minimum temperatures also increased. The average minimum temperature increased by about 0.5 degrees and remained about 2 degrees above normal. The lowest minimum temperature in the state was recorded in Jind at 11°C.

Rising night temperatures accelerate plant respiration, increasing their energy consumption. This can lead to reduced grain weight. Farmers are being advised to irrigate lightly to maintain moisture in the fields and provide nutrients as needed.

Weather Department’s Forecast for February 28

Partly cloudy skies are expected on February 28th. During this period, the maximum temperature in the state is expected to be between 27 and 30 degrees Celsius, and the minimum temperature is expected to be between 9 and 13 degrees Celsius.
